Eric Ten Hag confirmed Anthony Martial will miss Sunday’s trip

Manchester United manager Eric Ten Hag has confirm that Anthony Martial will miss Sunday’s trip to Brighton due to injury.

However, he refuse to comment on the question of whether Cristiano Ronaldo would return to play in Martial’s place.

United are left with only Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford as direct strikers to replace Martial. If Ten Hag doesn’t pick up the nine mistakes he test in the preseason.

However, Ronaldo, who was ask to leave United, was only allow to play 45 min of the pre-season friendly. Having miss the pre-season friendly due to family issues . And he was lagging behind the rest of the team in terms of fitness.

Asked if Ronaldo would play in Martial’s place, Ten Hag said: “We’ll see on Sunday.” Ten Hag also said he was really happy to have a 5-time Ballon d’Or winner in his squad.

The United boss is unsure how long Martial will be out for, but believes he has the means to cope without the France international.

Ask about Martial’s injury: “It’s hard to say. But I hope it won’t be too long. I think there will be a solution to this.”

United will sign Lisandro Martinez , Cristiano Eriksson and Tyrell Malacia have been sign during this summer’s transfer . However, Ten Hag are still looking to sign more players.

Eriksen and Martinez were late for United’s friendly trip but will be ready to face Brighton, according to Ten Hag.

Barcelona midfielder Frankie de Jong has been United’s top target since the start of the summer transfer window. In addition, United discuss the signing of RB Salzburg’s teenage striker Benjamin Sesko.

United have already reach a comprehensive deal with Barcelona to strengthen their midfield .  That has struggle since Sir Alex Ferguson tenure. However, the deal was delay , by Barcelona delay paying wages for Frankie de Jong .

Ten Hag said the team is still looking for new signings. But he stress , “You don’t need just any player, you need the right player.”

When ask if he was satisfied with his team’s midfield selection, Ten Hag said, “I am satisfied. As we saw in the preseason, we were pretty good there. We are a good team. But we can still improve our team.”

Throughout the summer, Ten Hag preferre Martial, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford were up front.

If they decide not to start Ronaldo, one possible option could be to play Rashford in the middle and bring Anthony Elanga, who start in friendlies against Melbourne Victory and Atletico Madrid, into one of the wide positions.

The United manager may choose to use some of the less experience players in his first team if he decides to experiment a bit.

Tahith Chong and Alejandro Garnacho were both allow to start in the draw against Rayo Vallecano. Amad Diallo, who recently return from a loan spell at Rangers, also score in the game and is another potential option for Ten Hag .
